Power White

Answers To The Most Commonly Asked Questions

Q. WHAT IS TOOTH WHITENING?

A. Tooth whitening is a procedure that utilizes safe and highly effective carbamide peroxide to lighten tooth discoloration. The structure of the tooth remains unchanged, only the color is made lighter.

Q. HOW DOES POWERWHITE® WORK?

A. PowerWhite® whitens the tooth by neutralizing discoloration. As the professional strength carbamide peroxide in the PowerWhite® System is activated, gentle oxygenation removes the colored substances deep within the tooth’s enamel. Since your tooth’s enamel is transparent, once lightened it will let the natural color of the tooth show through. This safe and gentle process is proven to be very effective for teeth whitening in the convenience of one’s own home. Teeth that have changed color due to the elements, diet or age look whiter, brighter and younger after using the PowerWhite® System.

Q. HOW DOES THE POWERWHITE® SYSTEM DIFFER FROM OTHER CUSTOM TRAY SYSTEMS?

A. The PowerWhite® Professional Tooth Whitening System is totally unique. First, it starts with our SofTray™ (patent pending) system for taking impressions or molds of your teeth. Unlike other systems that require molds be taken with large, hard, bulky, and sometimes painful one-size-fits-most trays, our SofTray™ is soft, comfortable, easy to use and can be customized to your particular mouth size. It's easy, safe and pain free. Second, your final custom whitening trays are fabricated in our doctor supervised dental laboratory. Each step of the process is carefully monitored so your custom trays will have the very best and most comfortable fit. And third, the PowerWhite® whitening formula has received some of the highest ratings given by a leading independent dental testing laboratory.

Q. WHY SHOULD I SELECT THE POWERWHITE® SYSTEM INSTEAD OF OTHER KITS I'VE SEEN?

A. Many store bought and other "take home" products include a toothpaste with an abrasive or acid toCustom vs Boil 'n Bite Trays simply remove surface stains. These products may damage your teeth and gums. Many also use large uncomfortable "boil-and-bite" athletic mouthguard type whitening trays which leak most of the teeth whitening solution into your mouth and may damage your gums. Results are generally very poor and are not as profound or long lasting as the PowerWhite® System. The PowerWhite® System, developed by Dr. John Cliff for his cosmetic patients, comes with the revolutionary SofTray™ (pat. pend.) system, carefully fabricated custom whitening trays and the latest state-of-the-art professional whitening solution to insure fast, complete results. In addition, you receive Supersmile® nonabrasive stain removing toothpaste. Supersmile® was developed by a leading cosmetic dentist to help his celebrity clients keep their teeth their whitest and it will do the same for you.

Q. IS THE POWERWHITE® SYSTEM SIMPLE TO USE?

A. Yes! Your custom formed trays fit comfortably into your mouth. They are inconspicuous and designed to hold our professional strength whitening solution securely in place. Custom formed trays optimize whitening success by keeping the solution in contact with the teeth and away from the gums. Usual dosage is one application per day for 45 minutes per application. There is no need to wear the trays overnight as recommended by some systems because the whitening effect of our professional whitening solution is maximized within 45 minutes. The only restriction is that you can't eat, drink or smoke while wearing the trays. It's that simple.

Q. WHAT ABOUT LASER BLEACHING LIKE BRITESMILE™?

A. So called laser or high inensity light bleaching, like BriteSmile™, simply consists of using a very strong whitening solution and "activating" the solution with laser or other high intensity light. Due to the strength of the teeth whitening solution this procedure must be undertaken in the dental office. Recent research, however, has proven this concentrated whitening solution is just as effective without light "activation" and, in fact, gives the exact same results when used alone. The "laser" concept is more marketing hype than fact. Does this procedure work? Yes, but it can take up to three dental office visits or more, cost up to $1000 and often results in post treatment tooth sensitivity. Also laser whitening needs to be redone on a regular basis or maintained with a custom tray whitening system like PowerWhite®. Is the final result better than the PowerWhite® System? No, your final result will be the same.

Q. ARE CREST WHITE STRIPS® JUST AS EFFECTIVE AND EASY TO USE?

A. No. Crest White Strips® are self adhesive plastic strips that are designed to stick to the teeth and release whitening gel. Do they work? Well sort of. First, most users find them difficult to properly position and keep in place for the recommended time. Second, they must be used twice a day for up to four weeks. Third, they only cover the front six teeth, canine to canine, and don't fit large, small or crooked teeth properly. They can help whiten the front teeth but your smile becomes "two toned". Look in a mirror. When you smile you show teeth behind the canines. With White Strips® the teeth behind the canines stay dark making the smile two different shades, dark and light. This is not the case with the PowerWhite® System which treated all the teeth.

Q. WHAT CAUSES TEETH TO DISCOLOR?

A. There are various reasons for discoloration. Genetics, age and habits can lead to discolored teeth. Teeth may gradually discolor as trace amounts of stain percolate through the enamel, penetrating the tooth. Discoloration like this may happen as a result of exposure to tobacco, coffee, tea, soda or juices. This is why your PowerWhite® System ships with Supersmile® stain removing toothpaste. Also certain medications such as the prescription antibiotic tetracycline can discolor teeth.

Q. HOW LONG WILL MY TEETH STAY WHITE?

A. Teeth whitened with the PowerWhite® System will stay bright for a long time. Your unique combination of habits, foods, and tooth structure will influence the long-term results. Nonsmokers who don't drink coffee or tea will see the longest lasting results, up to two years. With periodic touchup applications twice a year the results are virtually permanent. Also a high quality, nonabrasive whitening toothpaste like Supersmile® (included in your Deluxe Whitening Kit) can inhibit re-staining of whitened teeth.

Q. HOW LONG WILL WHITENING TAKE?

A. Most people see an improvement after just a few days. The complete process normally takes between 1 and 2 weeks of daily treatment. Results will vary due to stain type, stain depth and tooth structure. Difficult cases occasionally require longer treatment times.

Q. IS TOOTH WHITENING SAFE?

A. Yes! Research and clinical studies have proven that professional teeth whitening will not affect your enamel, tooth structure, dental work or soft tissue. The active ingredient, carbamide peroxide, has been used for many years by dentists as an oral antiseptic. Some tooth whitening systems add potassium nitrate to the their solutions. Because nitrates may convert in the body to nitrosamines, a carcinogen, PowerWhite® has decided not to include this chemical. Our formula has received some of the highest ratings given by an independent dental testing lab and only contains time proven safe ingredients: glycerin, 22% carbamide peroxide, buffered polyacrylic acid and peppermint oil.

Q. DOES IT WORK ON TOOTH COLORED FILLINGS?

A. The PowerWhite System was developed specifically to whiten your natural tooth enamel. Hence, it will not whiten silver or tooth colored fillings, crowned (capped) or veneered teeth. After treatment pre-existing cosmetic restorations (bonding, tooth colored crowns, or veneers) may not match your new white smile. If desired, have your dentist replace these old restorations.

Sometimes, however, just the opposite is true. Old crowns, etc. may be lighter than your natural teeth. As an added benefit, many times after PowerWhite® treatment those old lighter crowns will blend with your new whiter teeth eliminating the need to replace them saving you hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Q. IS THERE ANY DISCOMFORT?

A. About one in twenty users will experience mild discomfort during the whitening process. Some users might feel increased sensitivity to cold foods, but this sensitivity most often ends a day or two after the treatment is completed. Should your teeth become sensitive, simply discontinue treatment for a few days, then restart treatment but for shorter application periods.

Q. WHO CAN USE THE POWERWHITE® SYSTEM ?

A. Nearly anyone from 13 to 90 who wants a more confident, vibrant smile. However, whitening has not been tested on pregnant or lactating women. For those who are pregnant, considering getting pregnant or lactating it is recommended you contact your physician before using the PowerWhite® System.
